Egg - traordinary Easter Egg Decorating / Design Ideas

Where Did the Custom Originate?
The egg is a symbolism of new birth, rejuvenation and life, reinforced by the vision of a chick hatching from its delicate oval shaped cocoon.
Another Theory . .
Christianity claims that Mary Magdalene brought cooked eggs, in a basket, to share with the other women at the tomb of Jesus. Which as it stands, on its own, is plausible taking in consideration the era, quick prep time and enormity of the event. The eggs miraculously morphed into a brilliant red color when Christ arose from the dead. The egg is a symbol of the boulder that covered the tomb of Jesus Christ the Savior.
I'd like to share some rather unique and different forms of egg decoration and design. An art form that is decades old. When I was a girl the dipping of eggs in pastel dyes was a mainstay, but a bore by the time I became a mother. The act in itself is a bonding and melding of family.
Decorating Eggs: Exquisite Designs with Wax & Dye
Authored by Jane Pollak this book contains history of the art of egg decorating and beautiful photographs that are generously sprinkled throughout the book. The art of wax and dying Easter eggs goes back as far as Macedonia.
Pollack gives the reader clear easy to follow instructions for the novice giving options. One chapter is devoted on the how tos of color, the effect colors have when coupled with each other and directions on layering of colors on the delicate egg shelled canvas.
Artful Eggs: Six Dozen Extraordinary Ways to Decorate an Egg - Terry Taylor

Easter Egg Decoration: With 33 Stickers
This is a really cool book written by Joan O'Brien, for decorating with little ones. Easy, quick designs no muss, fuss, no ruining of table surfaces, flooring or little hand prints (set in dye) on walls.
Why you say? It's because the book contains a kit!! Two eggs are in the book and kids can add the full color stickers (which are numbered) to matching numbers found on the egg. Not only is this fun, but educational. Stickers of lambs, bouquets of flowers, rabbits, birds, boys / girls and a mother duck with ducklings to name a few.
These eggs will last way past the festive holiday, and can be kept as a live memory of the fun family day. Thirty-three stickers and two eggs (located on the inside cover) are included providing hours of fun, keeping little hands and minds busy, a great distraction for busy moms.
